Rough Guides on a phone |
Rough Guides is a leading travel guide brand instantly recognisable to many travellers. The application is aimed at the 18-35 market, providing a broad range of information on European cities. Rough Guides uses a rich graphical map based client to allow the user to browse through countries, cities and points of interest. Detailed city maps are provided by Via Michelin, and are delivered over the air to the device.
The mobile application is supplied by Creativity Software based in Kingston, Surrey, UK. Lost Wax provided specialist technical consultancy to Creativity Software in the development of this Java J2ME application.
Neil Stamps, Technical Architect at Lost Wax and a specialist in mobile computing, said "The Rough Guides application development posed a number of technical challenges, chiefly the access and storage of large amounts of image data. The application is able to retrieve and store data from and to multiple locations in a completely flexible and scalable manner”.
