Software Engineering Excellence

We believe in the old maxim that innovation is 90 percent perspiration and 10 percent inspiration. The key characteristic of innovative software is that it works. Innovative software must meet all of the requirements of a business - including scaleability, reliability and security, as well as exciting new functionality and a rich user experience. Our track record in delivering software innovation is based on three key factors:

  • Practical software engineering expertise and development best practice
  • Flexible approach to project management including agile development
  • Exposure to a wider variety of business sectors and innovative business models

A highly skilled and experienced team
In many IT companies ambitious young programmers are encouraged to move away from developing software to progress their career. At Lost Wax we reject this approach. We allow our software engineers to do what they are good at - and encourage them to build on their experience to do things better. Typically our architects and lead developers have 10 to 20 years experience of developing software solutions. During this time they have been through the cycle of implementing new technologies several times - technologies that were once leading edge and are now viewed as business-critical. Our depth of experience means that our clients benefit from these technology breakthroughs, whilst controlling technical risk and ensuring a successful delivery.

We encourage our staff to increase their skills through formal training courses and informal mentoring and coaching. As a minimum our developers are expected to achieve the following qualifications and expertise:

  • Accredited by Sun Microsystems as Java programmers, developers or architects
  • Accredited by Microsoft through the MSCD programme
  • Expertise in XML technologies
  • Expertise in the leading DBMS products (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Good understanding of the DSDM methodology and other agile methods
