Manufacturing and Distribution Logistics

Lost Wax is delivering software innovation into manufacturing and distribution logistics. Our focus is the supply chain - implementing the latest thinking about the adaptive supply chain and agile business. This brings together three of our core strengths - online enterprise software, mobile and wireless technologies and multi-agent systems.

This sector is dominated by large-scale enterprise planning software but with low levels of automation outside of the 'factory gate'. The recent breakthroughs in wireless networks and mobile devices have created an excellent opportunity for a new approach.

We have developed multi-agent software that enables a business for the first time to implement a genuinely adaptive supply chain. Crucially this allows our clients to leverage their investment in enterprise planning systems by modelling and then automating integrated decision making throughout the supply chain. Manufacturing and distribution logistics constantly faces stop/start disruptions. By addressing the constraints in these complex business processes we can help our clients to improve business responsiveness and achieve a measurable return on investment.

AA2 - Introducing the adaptive supply chain
In 2002 we collaborated with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y). They have stated that supporting adaptive business, and deploying software agents, is a central strand in their marketing strategy in the next few years. We developed a sophisticated software model of an adaptive supply chain - called AA2 - to demonstrate how intelligent agents can be used to meet the goals of adaptive business. The system shows an adaptive supply chain in a vehicle-servicing context.

Recent Projects

Our experience includes the retail distribution supply chain, after-market servicing and manufacturing:

  • Leading UK manufacturer - following the groundbreaking work with AA2 we have worked with a major UK manufacturer developing a new 'after-market' business for their next generation product. We have worked with their business process experts to model their supply chain. We are now moving to the next stage of designing a new approach and architecture for an adaptive supply chain.
  • UK high street retailer- we developed an extranet supplier portal to streamline the buying and ordering process in order to drive efficiency and associated savings in time and cost through the business. The supplier portal provided merchandising, buying, stock allocation and marketing/PR facilities. The system was integrated to MIS, warehouse management and POS systems.
